Twelve weeks with one fixed 35mm lens
In June I put the zoom lens in a drawer and decided to shoot only with an old 35mm prime until the end of summer. The idea was not new, but I had never actually stuck with it for more than a weekend.
The first two weeks were frustrating. I kept reaching for focal lengths I no longer had, and a lot of frames felt either too empty or too crowded. Around week three something shifted: I started walking more instead of zooming, and I began to see compositions before raising the camera.
By the end I had fewer keepers than usual, but the ones I kept feel more deliberate. The biggest surprise was how much lighter the bag became and how that alone made me take the camera out more often.
Would I do it again? Probably next spring, with a 50mm this time.
